Old World — New Story: September 2 Devlog Explained
The September 2 devlog confirms a bigger world with southern outskirts, an eight-year story gap, a returning Technology Tree plus new talents, mostly new characters, a non-Gerry talking skull and no Teleportstone. Milestones are the confirmed replacement fast travel between unlocked locations.
TL;DR
- Bigger world: southern outskirts plus another village, tavern, forest, swamp, church and graveyard.
- Traders and refugees connect the Town to outside goods and people.
- Eight years have passed in-world and in real life.
- Same Keeper, with a deliberate “not exactly” spoiler caveat and a Stranger Sins hint.
- Tech Tree returns; new talents are meant to reduce grinding.
- Mostly new cast; talking skull is not Gerry.
- Teleportstone is gone; Milestones handle fast travel after unlock.
- Important characters usually stay put; some mechanics are designated-day only.
- Zombie battles and conveyor-belt factories are named.
Expanded world
The devlog describes a bigger world including the Town’s southern outskirts plus another village, tavern, forest, swamp, church and graveyard. That list is location-type evidence. It is not a measured map and not an unlock order.
Traders and refugees
Traders bring foreign goods. Refugees seek homes in the zombie-infested Town. Combined with June’s market/restoration language, the Town is meant to feel economically connected rather than sealed.
Eight-year gap and the Keeper
Eight years have passed since the original game, both in the real world and in the game world. The sequel keeps the same Keeper in a qualified “not exactly the same” sense. The exact story explanation is deliberately unrevealed here; the devlog points Stranger Sins players toward the intended context without this guide spoiling it.
Tech Tree and talents
The familiar Technology Tree returns alongside a new talent system intended to reduce grinding. That is the progression headline. Talent names and costs are not in the locked post.
Characters and the skull that is not Gerry
Several iconic characters return while most characters are new. The talking skull companion is explicitly not Gerry.
Teleportstone is gone; Milestones replace it
This is confirmed, not unknown. Teleportstone will not return. Milestones allow fast travel between locations after they are unlocked. Unlock costs and the full Milestone list are not published.
Schedules
Important quest characters will usually stay at their regular locations, while certain mechanics tied to them remain available only on designated days. That is a design change for returning players who remembered weekly chases. Named day calendars are not listed.
Zombie battles and conveyor-belt factories
The same post that talks about story also names two mechanical additions: zombie battles and conveyor-belt factories. Evergreen pages already absorb both — Combat and Automation.
