The May devlog confirms friendly zombies can operate semi-automatic machines in underground factories and develop skills. September material names conveyor-belt factories. Official screenshots add a visible Town Workshop, a Building Tech Tree, and grid-based placement UI. Detailed efficiency numbers and best setups should wait for launch evidence.

Four evidence layers

Automation is the sequel’s best-documented pre-release system if you keep the layers separate instead of blending screenshots into recipes.

1. Resources entering the system

Official store copy says the Keeper harvests flora, fauna and human remains to build machinery and automate production. tinyBuild’s August release names hearts, bones, brains and skin as gatherable materials, and says players can farm food and care for livestock. Those are material and activity categories. They are not workstation catalogues, ratios or unattended-runtime claims.

2. Zombie workforce

Each friendly zombie has individual skill progression. Higher corruption / red-skull potential allows better skill development. Players can increase corpse corruption using corrupted body parts and corruption embalming before creating worker zombies. The May devlog also distinguishes the Keeper’s marked Possession-Free Zombies from hostile undead that terrorize the Town. The compact comparison lives on the zombies page; this page only needs the labour implication: workers are not a faceless stack of identical units.

3. Workshop and factory layer

Underground factories and semi-automatic machines are official May text. Conveyor-belt factories are official September 2 text. Town Workshop is screenshot-observed: an official PlayStation promotional shot labels an underground production hall with that name. Do not read the visible 66/75 meter, station output icons or worker count as a published throughput rule.

4. Building and progression UI

Official PlayStation shots show top navigation tabs named Character, Tech Tree, Inspirations, Quests and Map. A Building Tech Tree shot visibly includes Simple Weapons, Simple Barricades, Oiled Wood, Tool Rack, Stone Polishing, Pottery I and Brick Making. A placement shot shows a grid with valid and blocked tiles plus Build, Rotate and Exit controls. Visible names may be transcribed. Invisible node effects, exact costs and grid dimensions may not.

Two-layer model: machinery plus zombie labour

The sequel’s automation pitch is easier if you stop looking for a single “best factory.” Official text describes two layers that have to work together. Layer one is machinery: semi-automatic machines, underground factories, and — as of September 2 — conveyor-belt factories. Layer two is labour: individual zombies with skills, corruption potential, and a Possession-Free mark that separates them from the hostile undead attacking the Town. A screenshot of Town Workshop shows both layers in one hall: stations in a grid, workers at those stations, and a location label. That still does not publish cycle times.

The labour layer is why red skulls belong on an automation page. Higher corruption is not described as a cosmetic gore slider. The May devlog says it allows better skill development. Corrupted body parts and corruption embalming are the pre-reanimation tools named in that same post. After reanimation, the worker is a person-shaped production unit with a skill tree, not a stack of identical “zombie items.” The combat layer is adjacent rather than identical: official store copy says troops can be armed and trained, and September names zombie battles. Factory labour and army duty share a species in the fiction. They are not proven to share one stat block.

The machinery layer is why Town Workshop, the Building Tech Tree and the placement grid matter. Workshop is a visible place. The Tech Tree is a visible progression surface whose Building column already shows Simple Weapons, Simple Barricades, Oiled Wood, Tool Rack, Stone Polishing, Pottery I and Brick Making. Placement is a visible verb with Build, Rotate and Exit. Together they tell a player “you will lay out machines on a grid and unlock production nodes.” They do not tell a player the recipe for bricks or how long a belt can run unattended. This guide would rather stop at that useful sentence than invent a spreadsheet.

Inputs are similarly categorical. Flora, fauna and human remains are official harvest language. Hearts, bones, brains and skin are publisher examples of decayed materials. Farming food and livestock care are publisher-announced activities that can feed the same production fantasy. None of those lists is a workstation catalogue. If a competitor page names a specific unattended timer or a station that is not in the locked sources, this site does not copy it.

    What this page is for on September 22

    On launch day this should become a station-by-station guide. Until then it is the only honest automation manual available: labour rules, factory types, visible UI, and a loop that explains why Town prosperity eventually makes better workers. If a player finishes this page and knows to look for Town Workshop, red-skull corpses, conveyor factories and a Build/Rotate/Exit grid, the page did its job. If they finish it thinking they already know the brick recipe, the page failed.
